World Osteoporosis Day

    1) The theme of the event was “Active Living for Healthy Bone". About 1,000 people attended.
2) Exhibition: healthy bone diet, ultrasound bone measurement and talk on bone health

 
 

 

 


Regional Osteoporosis Symposium and Certificate Course in Clinical Densitometry
(27-28 October 2001)
 
 

 
    1) Symposium title on “Advances in Osteoporosis: Diagnosis, Prevention, Treatment and Rehabilitation” and Certificate Course in Clinical Densitometry were organized.
2) Renouned world experts were invited to give talks and 200 healthcare professionals attended the event.

 
 

 



Opening Ceremony of The Chinese University of Hong Kong Jockey Club Centre for Osteoporosis Care and Control
(8 November 2001)
 
 


 
    1) The CUHK Jockey Club Centre for Osteoporosis Care and Control was officially opened on 8 November. Dr. E. K. Yeoh, Secretary for Health and Welfare, Mr. Chau Cham Son, Deputy Chairman of The Hong Kong Jockey Club and Professor Arthur K. C. Li, Vice-Chancellor of The Chinese University of Hong Kong officiated at the ceremony.
2) After the ceremony, the Centre Directors, Prof. Edith Lau and Prof. Leung Ping Chung, presented recent research findings on osteoporosis in anorexic nervosa sufferers and men.

Orthopadeic surgens address neglect of osteoporosis

In response to a multi-country survey showing that orthopaedic surgeons are poorly trained to recognise and treat osteoporosis, an international organisation of orthopaedic surgeons unveils a set of recommendations to reduce the risk of successive fractures in patients with osteoporosis.
