Oestrogen (in women) and testosterone (in men) help to slow down bone loss. With less oestrogen in the body, a great deal of bone tissue can be lost in the years following menopause. Women often lose up to 20% of their bone mass within five to seven years of menopause.

 

Self assessment of risk factors
Get a bone denisty test
Consult a doctor
Eat a balanced diet and keep a healthy body weight
Get enough calcium and vitamin D
Have regular exercises
Avoid smoking and heavy drinking
